Description
This is an exquisite antique necklace/necklet fashioned in 15ct gold in the colours of the Suffragette movement. nnThis is a very unusual piece that includes Emeralds rather than the more typical peridot (representing the Green for hope in the Suffragette movement). The deign is also particularly striking taking influence from both the fluidity of the Art Nouveau period but also has something of the burgeoning Deco movement about it.nnThe main body of the necklace contains two Emeralds of good colour and three amethyst in a flower spray design with the white seed pearls forming leaves.A dropper of a seed pearl and three amethysts adds more interest to this very elegant piece. The main chain is suspended from a single amethyst.nnThis will absolutely become an heirloom piece for generations, the quality and skill of the craftsmanship being absolutely superb. nnNote: This is worn very close to the neck in a necklet style.See photos for a measure of the chain. Marked 15ct.nnJewellery displaying the colours green, violet and white were often worn in support of the Women’s Social and Political Union (Wspu) which was at the forefront of the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. They adopted these three colours to highlight their key virtues: Violet for Royalty, White for Purity and Green for Hope, and also formed the phrase “Give Women Votes!
