Description
We are delighted to offer this spectacular pair of solid silver gilt caryatid candlesticks made in Vienna during the Austro-Hungarian empire by J.C. Klinkosch c.1870. nnJ.C. Klinkosch were imperial silversmiths to Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria and is regarded as one of the finest Austrian silversmiths of the 19th century with numerous commissions by the Austrian Royal Family. nnSuch prestige and notability come as no surprise upon viewing this pair; evident by their fully silver gilt and magnificent design, this pair most definitely presents opulent and desirable characteristics of fine figural silverware. nnThe pair is cast and sculpted in the form of a man and a woman, each meticulously detailed and decorated. The fact that two different figures/casting moulds would have been used for a single pair is a testament to its luxurious and ‘no cost cut’ stance, doubling the time and laborious craftsmanship to complete this pair.nnPracticality and elegance combined, this pair may just be the perfect addition whether it be for elevating the ambience of an interior or for usage on a dining table for a splendid silver(gilt) dining experience. Placed within an antique interior setting or perhaps as a juxtaposing centrepiece attraction in a contemporary setting, such a marvellous pair is an equally inspiring conversation starter as interior decor with much to discuss about its craftmanship, history and artistry. nnThe detailing of the facial features, hair and proportions are delightful and the heavily embellished floral and vine motif clothing around their waist is outstanding. No section is left unembellished with the collums and base featuring a fluted design and the top capitals presenting a foliate design, flaring outwards as if to caress the candle. nnOverall, a magnificent pair of candlesticks with some of the finest 19th c. Austrian silversmithing combining artistic sensibility with utility to form a very well though out design. nnHallmarks are present on the base of each candlestick with Austrian marks and a maker’s mark.nn*All images with other items are for display purposes, this listing is for the title item only. nnSizenSize (cm) H:27.5cm W:13cm nSize (inches) H:10.8 W:5.11nWeight: 999 grams (32.1 Troy oz) the pair. nnConditionnExcellent Condition -The pair is in excellent antique condition, with no damage or issues.
